Around 7:30 p.m. last night, a Union City police car crashed into another vehicle near the intersection of 35th Street and Hudson Avenue after driving through a red light, the eyewitnesses said, agreeing only to speak under the condition of anonymity.

The driver, Police Officer Porzia Tambone, was transported to the Hoboken University Medical Center by Union City Emergency Medical Services to be  treated for relatively minor injuries, law enforcement sources said.

Those sources added that no other first responders arrived at the scene.

The Union City Police Department deferred comment to the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office, where a spokesman did not immediately return an email seeking comment.
