“We are writing to express our deep concerns regarding Verizon’s decision to terminate its agreement with RNN, lay off 150 employees and shut down Fios1 News in New Jersey and New York,” DeGise, Nick Chiaravalloti (D-31), Annette Chaparro and Raj Mukherji (both D-33) wrote in a letter to Verizon Chair and CEO Hans Vestberg on Tuesday.

” … Fios1 News is one of the few remaining sources of original hyperlocal news content in our area, so we were dismayed to learn of you decision to end your service. We urge you to reconsider the decision to shut down Fios1 News and return to the negotiating table to find a solution …”

Verizon announced last month that their last day of operations will be on November 15th, a major hit for New Jersey press since the only other TV stations based in the Garden State are News12 and NJTV.

Despite some blowback from election officials in New York and New Jersey, Verizon has shown no signs of looking back, announcing that they will instead be carrying News12 in the foreseeable future.
