A lifelong Bayonne resident, Dave Watson was a popular band director at the local high school from 1984 to 1994 and was commonly known to his students as “Doc.”
Watson is also a professional musician who has had the opportunity to perform with the likes of Alicia Keys, Mariah Carey, Christina Aguilera, India Arie, The O’Jays, The Rolling Stones, Bob Dylan, The Police, and The Sugar Hill Gang to name a few.
“I am running because I believe we need a Board that will act with integrity and serve as an example to our young people,” Watson said in a statement.
“We should have a Board representative of our community. As someone with no conflicts, I can do what I believe is right for Bayonne not my friends and family.”
Valado, Watson and Munoz said they are all dedicated to improving the education of student and treating teachers with the respect they deserve, while understanding the school district’s impact on property taxes.
“In the past few years we have seen tremendous transition and progress with the Bayonne school system. I am proud of the substantive changes we have made in curriculum and leadership,” Board President Maria Valado added.
“Doc was my band leader and Maria has been an important partner at the board. This is the first time I am running with a team, but I do not think we can afford to slide back to
the previous conflict and corrupt system,” added Trustee Christopher Munoz, the vice president of the board.
