Still hospitalized after many surgeries, a GoFundMe has been started for Bayonne 2nd Ward Councilman Sal Gullace about a month after being involved in a devastating industrial accident.

“Sal has been thru a difficult, painful, trying time the past 31 days and has endured over a dozen surgeries. I’m sure we cannot possibly all imagine being holed up in a hospital bed with limited mobility to do anything at all what so ever until it happens,” the GoFundMe description says.
“This is the real reality for Sal. Anyone who knows Sal, knows that he is always on the go, working hard for not only his family but also the community he lives in. Sal is THAT guy who would always go out of his way to help out anyone at any given time.”
On July 24th, while performing his duties as a solid waste facility contract monitor for the Hudson County Improvement Authority, Gullace suffered a serious led injury after being struck by a private garbage truck, as HCV first reported.
Over a month later, the councilman remains in University Hospital in Newark and appears to still have a long road to recovery ahead.
“There is no time frame at this moment as to when Sal may be leaving the hospital but we are hopeful,” John Milan Sebik, who started the GoFundMe, also wrote in the page description.
“Sal is a good friend, a great husband, father to three children and friend to me and many others. At this time, I am asking my friends and Sal’s friends to try to pitch in and help out with anything you can to help Sal and his family navigate through these tough times.”
As of 12:30 p.m. the online fundraiser has seen $9,625 come in from 51 donors since being created three days ago. The page has set an overall goal of $25,000.
