Stack embraces county warfare: ‘There’s too many in politics where it’s about themselves’

State Senator (D-33)/Union City Mayor Brian Stack welcomed county warfare during a speech at his mayoral ball last night, exclaiming “there’s too many in politics where it’s about themselves.”

“There’s too many in politics, and not the people up on this stage, there’s too many people in politics where it’s about themselves: where it’s about serving a select few, when they only go to various communities at election time,” Stack said at The Graycliff in Moonachie.

“They never go back to those communities: you can’t find ‘em in the summer, you can’t find ‘em any time except election time: that’s what we need to change.”

Stack also emphasized that elected office should be about working to make people’s lives better each day.

Battle tested several times throughout his political career, the 51-year-old North Hudson power broker is expecting fists to fly, at a minimum, in light of he and Jersey City Mayor Steven Fulop leading a charge to replace Hudson County Executive Tom DeGise.

DeGise, backed by his own team led by U.S. Rep. Albio Sires (D-8) and state Senator (D-33)/North Bergen Mayor Nick Sacco, has vowed to slug it out until the end, refusing to be immediately cast aside by two “tin-horned dictators.”

While the Hudson County executive race isn’t on the calendar until the June 2019 Democratic primary, both sides are already gearing up their troops for a civil war.

Dignitaries in attendance included Gov. Phil Murphy (D), Hoboken Mayor Ravi Bhalla, West New York Mayor Felix Roque, Hudson County Clerk E. Junior Maldonado, Jersey City Councilman-at-Large Daniel Rivera, Union City Commissioners Lucio Fernandez, Maryury Martinetti, Celine Valdivia and Tilo Rivas (the latter also a county freeholder), Freeholders Bill O’Dea (D-2) and Joel Torres (D-4), West New York Commissioner Susan Colacurcio, West New York Board of Education President Adam Parkinson, along with fellow Trustee Jonathan Castaneda, former Gov. Jim McGreevey (D), among many, many others.
