State Senator (D-33)/Union City Mayor Brian Stack is asking the New Jersey Attorney General’s Office for election monitors in the 33rd Legislative District for the June 10th primary, which Assembly candidate Tony Hector welcomes.

“This election season has been the ugliest in recent memory. The North Bergen political machine continues to spread lies and vicious personal attacks, aiming to dissuade voters from engaging in the electoral process,” Stack said in a statement.

“Moreover, there have rumors of my opponents registering residents to vote who clearly do not reside in the district, just as it has been theorized that my opponents directly interfere in the voting process, which is supposed to be private and sacred. We desperately need help in ensuring the integrity of this election. If the process is tainted, the election results will be tainted.”

Stack continued that he is consequently asking for the AG’s Office to provide election monitors for the June 10th primary “to police the election and protect the voting rights of residents.”

June 10th has all the making of a North Hudson melee at the moment, when Larry Wainstein and Assemblyman Gabriel Rodriguez will face off with Hector and Frank Alonso for two state Assembly seats.

Wainstein and Rodriguez are supported by Stack and the Hudson County Democratic Organization (HCDO), while Hector and Alonso are on Jersey City Mayor Steven Fulop’s “Democrats for Change” slate, with the HCDO ticket favored.

In response, Hector found it amusing that he would call on the state for such assistance in this election.

“The people of New Jersey have no faith in the political machine to operate a fair election, so I’m calling for federal monitors to oversee this election and stop Brian Stack from stealing votes,” he quipped back.

“It is absolutely laughable for the most corrupt elected official in New Jersey to cry about election interference when Brian Stack himself has a long record of harassing political opponents and trying to intimidate voters into supporting him.”

The AG’s Office did not immediately return an email seeking comment.
