Sources, who spoke under the condition of anonymity since they weren’t authorized to speak on the matter, said that the baby boy was tested for the virus last week and the results came back positive over the weekend.

They also indicated that his symptoms, which included a fever and a cough, have been improving and that his family is from North Bergen.

His parents, both of whom have not displayed any symptoms, have been tested for the coronavirus and are awaiting the results, sources said.

A spokesman for the hospital, a part of the Hackensack Meridian Health network, did not immediately return inquiries seeking comment.

However, Township spokesman Phil Swibinski confirmed this afternoon that the infant’s parents brought him in to the hospital for COVID-19 testing on Saturday, when he was just 10 days old, and the test came back positive.

The baby has since been discharged and is recovering at home, Swibinski said.

A 9-month-old baby from Chicago is believed to be the youngest coronavirus-related death in the country to date, The Chicago Tribune reported yesterday.

As of late Sunday evening, the Township of North Bergen had announced 158 local coronavirus patients.

The New Jersey Department of Health’s latest figures had 974 COVID-19 cases in Hudson County, the third most in the state by county.
