Maldonado, who was appointed to the county freeholder board in July 2013, won his first full term the following November and was the chairman of the governing body in 2015.

Current County Clerk Barbara Netchert, who served two, five-year terms, is retiring and Maldonado has always been on the short-list of replacements.

Taking his spot in county government is Torres, who was sworn in as BOE president back in January and has his term expiring in December 2017.

Another newcomer will likely join the freeholders in January, as former Seton Hall basketball star and current Team Walker CEO Jerry Walker is slated to fill in for Gerry Balmir in District 3 – Balmir decided in January not to seek re-election.

Additionally, as Hudson County View first reported, the Trenton representatives for the 31st Legislative District will remain unchanged.

The HCDO will formally announce their picks for the June 6 primary election at a press conference at the Brennan Courthouse in Jersey City on Wednesday.
