“I’m honored and humbled by the response our campaign has already received from West New York residents in just a short time,” former Congressman Albio Sires, also an ex-state Assembly speaker who was mayor between 1995 and 2006, said in a statement.

“Our team is ready to step into office on day one and move West New York forward.”

After 10 days of collecting signatures, Sires unveiled his running mates yesterday: Parks and Public Property Commissioner Victor Barrera, Board of Education President Adam Parkinson, BOE Trustee Marielka Diaz, and recent Republican congressional candidate Marcos Arroyo, as HCV first reported.

“West New York residents understand how important it is to have the right team leading our community on the Board of Commissioners, and I’m honored by the support we have received so far,” stated Barrera, who was first elected in 2019.

“I’m excited to meet with neighbors throughout West New York in this campaign and spread our message of moving our community forward. We’re not done collecting petitions yet and we will continue to connect with residents over the coming weeks,” Arroyo added.

200 valid signatures, which are due on March 6th at 4 p.m., are required per candidate to qualify for the ballot.

Public Affairs Commissioner Cosmo Cirillo was the first to announce a mayoral run in December and was the first to reveal his running mates: Assemblywoman Angelica Jimenez (D-32), Revenue and Finance Commissioner Margarita Guzman, local coach Hiram Gonzalez, and Walter Lopez, the husband of former Commissioner Michelle Lopez.

They are running under the “West New York Forward” banner.

Another ex-mayor, Felix Roque, announced his candidacy for the fourth election cycle in a row on Thursday, with former Policemen’s Benevolent Association President Tommy Mannion and real estate professional Carmen Baez joining the ticket.
