“As you can see, they have come in with the dirt to do a backfill. What’s gonna be happening is they’re gonna be putting a metal box into the hole to secure it and stabilize it, then they’re gonna put a plate over it,” Ward B Councilwoman Mira Prinz-Arey said on Facebook Live.
” … So please, again, avoid the area. Currently there are no water lines that have been affected by this collapse, this is a sewer line collapse, but I know I’ve gotten a couple questions about that.”
She added that the Jersey City Municipal Utilities Authority and Suez Water have bottled water on hand in the event water service is interrupted later in the day due to the repairs on Sip Avenue between Bryant and Hawthorne Avenues.
The City of Jersey City tweeted that Sip Avenue is closed from Route 440 to West Side Avenue while the emergency repairs are being completed.
