After Hudson County View documented the deplorable conditions on Election Day in the community room of Salem Lafayette Apartments at 94 Union Street in Jersey City, a return to the site a few weeks later depicted awful living conditions for many seniors in the building.

Melissa Alexander, a community advocate for seniors, brought Hudson County View into some of the units so the public can see the conditions.
A representative of the Jersey City Building Department said they were unaware of the situation, but that inspectors would be sent to the affordable housing complex to investigate.
Hudson County View was unable to contact the agency that manages the property for this story.
The renovations at Salem Lafayette are part of a 30-year tax abatement extension granted by the Fulop Administration and passed by the City Council for the affordable housing complex.
