Secaucus hospital reunites heart failure patient with first responders who saved him

Hudson Regional Hospital in Secaucus reunited a heart failure patients with the local first responders who saved him last month, honoring them with Lifesaver Awards.

On Monday, June 17th, Soongmin Park was reunited with the first responders that saved his life after his heart stopped on May 12th.

The two Secaucus police officers, Michael Borelli and Austin Hawxhurst, and three EMT’s, received Lifesaver Awards from the hospital. This was the third Lifesaver Award ceremony that the hospital has hosted since it started the program in 2023.

On May 12th at approximately 8:49 p.m., the Secaucus Police Department responded to Harmon Cove Towers, on a report of an unresponsive man, who was not breathing.

After delivering a second “shock” to the victim, Secaucus police officers and Hudson Regional Hospital EMT’s continued CPR, a pulse was found, and the main ultimately regained consciousness.

The victim was transported to Hackensack University Medical Center by Hudson Regional Hospital EMT’s and Jersey City Medical Center Paramedics.

“I am extremely proud of these officers and I commend their collaboration in performing these lifesaving measures and bringing this victim back to life,” Police Chief Dennis Miller said at the time.

“I also want to praise Hudson Regional Hospital EMS and Jersey City Medical Center’s Paramedics for their ongoing commitment to the safety of the residents of the Town of Secaucus.”
