Route 440 will be closed in both directions, northbound from Route 185 (Bayonne) to Danforth Avenue and southbound from Communipaw Avenue to Route 185, the Jersey City Municipal Utilities Authority announced last night.

To help direct drivers during construction, variable message signs (VMS boards) will be located at key areas throughout the project footprint. Jersey City Police Department personnel will be at affected signalized intersections.

Additionally, the Jersey City MUA will also deploy flaggers to assist at necessary locations.

Route 440 north of the Kellogg Street intersection will remain open to traffic, while motorists traveling north on Rt. 440 from Bayonne (i.e. Pulaski Street) will be detoured to the New Jersey Turnpike.

As for Danforth Avenue, the thoroughfare will be closed to westbound traffic from West Side Avenue, with access to local businesses only.

County Village access points will include Sycamore Road, Bartholdi Avenue, and Winfield Avenue,  with Society Hill and Stadium Plaza access point only accessible via Carbon Place and Culver Avenue (make a left onto Route 440 south and a right onto Kellogg Street).

Furthermore, access points to all businesses south of Communipaw Avenue (Hudson Mall to Stadium Plaza) include the  Bennett Street jug handle, Claremont Avenue, Carbon Place, and Culver Avenue.

Access to Home Depot and Raymour & Flanigan will be from the parking lot entrance from Gothics Knights Road.

Route 440 southbound will be closed from Communipaw Avenue to Route 185.

Vehicles traveling over the Lincoln Highway Bridge (Communipaw Bridge) coming into Jersey City will be diverted north (left) onto Route 1 & 9 or continue east (straight) onto Communipaw Avenue towards Mallory Avenue.

Vehicles traveling south on Route 1 & 9 towards Communipaw Avenue from Duncan Avenue will be diverted west (right) to continue onto Route 1 & 9 south or diverted east (left) onto Communipaw Avenue.

Existing parking regulations along Communipaw Avenue will be strictly enforced to maintain traffic flow during rush hour, designated as 7 a.m. through 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. on weekdays.

Finally, commercial trucks will continue eastbound on Communipaw Avenue to Garfield Avenue and are encouraged to use NJ Turnpike exit 14A for access to Port Jersey and exit 14B for access to East Linden Avenue sites.
