Prosecutor: West New York man arrested for sexual assault after public appeal

A West New York man was arrested for a sexual assault incident back in July after issuing a public appeal on Monday, Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez announced.

On Friday, August 9, 2024, members of the U.S. Marshals Service New York/New Jersey Regional Fugitive Task Force arrested Carlos Ruiz Castro for a sexual assault that occurred in West New York in July.

Ruiz Castro, of West New York, is charged with aggravated sexual assault, kidnapping, sexual assault, aggravated assault, aggravated criminal sexual contact, and simple assault.

He was arrested on Jackson Avenue in Hackensack and later transported to the Hudson County Correctional Facility pending his first court appearance.

On Saturday, July 27th, a 40-year-old female victim reported she encountered an unknown male sometime around 1:30 a.m. in the area of Hudson Avenue and 51st Street. The female reported the man later grabbed her by her hair and then sexually assaulted her.

Suarez credited the HCPO Special Victims Unit and the West New York Police Department with the investigation and arrest, with assistance from the U.S. Marshals Service New York/New Jersey Regional Fugitive Task Force.
