Prosecutor: Newark man charged with committing sexual assaults at Harrison group home

A Newark man has been charged with committing sexual assaults at a Harrison group home he was employed at, Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez announced.

On Friday, members of the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit arrested a Newark man following an investigation into allegations that he committed sexual assault at a group home in Harrison, Suarez said in a statement.

Jerome Brewer, 48, was arrested at approximately 1:40 p.m. at the Hudson County
Prosecutor’s Office in Jersey City. He was arrested without incident.

Regarding the first victim, Brewer has been charged with aggravated sexual assault upon an incapacitated victim, a first-degree crime.

He also faces charges involving a second victim. He has been charged with aggravated criminal sexual contact upon an incapacitated, a third- degree crime, and lewdness, a fourth-degree crime.

Brewer was employed as a home aide and was working in the group home at the time of the alleged criminal activity which occurred on November 24th.

Brewer was transported to the Hudson County Correctional Facility in Kearny pending his first appearance. The prosecutor’s office has filed a motion for pretrial detention of the defendant.

A hearing is scheduled for Wednesday, December 18th.

Suarez credited the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit for the
investigation leading to the arrest.
