Maximo Rodriguez, 24, of Fort Lee, is charged with one count of knowingly leaving the scene of a motor vehicle collision resulting in death, a second-degree crime, Suarez said in a statement.

He was arrested at the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office in Secaucus on Thursday, February 13th, and released pending his first court appearance.

Shortly before 6 a.m. on Monday, February 10th, the North Bergen Police Department was notified of a pedestrian struck in the area of Tonnelle Avenue and 91st Street.

Responding officers located an unresponsive man, later identified as Nestor Naira-Ojeda, 52, of North Bergen, and he was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of a Jeep Grand Cherokee remained at the scene. Members of the North Bergen PD conducted the investigation and learned a second vehicle, a box truck, had been involved in the collision and did not remain at the scene.

The Hudson County Regional Collision Investigation Unit then assumed control of the investigation and identified Rodriguez as the operator of the box truck.

Suarez credited the Regional Collision Investigation Unit and the North Bergen Police Department with the investigation and arrest.
