Prosecutor: Jersey City man dies from head injury sustained during street fight

A young Jersey City man died on Friday as the result of a head injury sustained during a street fight on Lexington Avenue, Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez announced.

On Thursday, at approximately 12:15 a.m., Jersey City police were dispatched to the area of Lexington Avenue on a report of a street fight. Upon arrival, responding officers found an injured male on the sidewalk in the area of 21 Lexington Ave., Suarez said in a statement.

The man, later identified as Glen Mackie, Jr., 29, of Jersey City, was unresponsive with an
obvious wound to his head. Mackie was transported by Emergency Medical Services to Jersey City Medical Center where he was treated for his injuries, authorities said.

Mackie was pronounced dead at approximately 5:00 p.m. on Friday, July 6th. The Medical
Examiner has determined the cause of death to be blunt force trauma to the head and manner of death to be homicide.

The Prosecutor’s Homicide Unit is actively investigating the case with assistance from the Jersey City Police Department.
