Earlier today, members of the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit and Hudson County Regional S.W.A.T. arrested Richard Murphy, 35, of Jersey City, Mello said in a statement.

He is charged with aggravated sexual assault, burglary, and aggravated assault. He was arrested at the Jersey City Medical Center and transported to the Hudson County Correctional Facility pending his first court appearance.

Shortly after 11:30 p.m. on July 26th, the Jersey City Police Department was notified of a sexual assault on Sussex Street.

Responding officers located a female victim who reported an unknown male physically and sexually assaulted her as she entered a residence. The female victim was transported to Jersey City Medical Center where she was treated for her injuries.

Mello credited the HCO Special Victims Unit with the investigation and arrest, with assistance from Hudson County Regional SWAT and the Jersey City PD.
