Prosecutor: Jersey City man, 26, charged with killing gas station attendant, 55

A 26-year-old Jersey City man has been charged with killing a 55-year-old gas station attendant after he died from injuries sustained in an assault last summer, Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez announced.

Nixon Marquez, 26, of Jersey City, is charged with murder and he was arrested at the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office in Secaucus earlier today, Suarez said in a statement.

He was then transported to the Hudson County Correctional Facility pending his first court appearance.

On Sunday, August 21st, 2022, at approximately 2:48 a.m., the Jersey City Police Department responded to the Shell gas station on the corner of Marin Boulevard and 14th Street on reports of an assault.

Responding officers located a man, later identified as Fardin Ghadamidarounkola, 55, of Jersey City, with a serious head injury. He was transported to Jersey City Medical Center for treatment.

On Monday, May 15th, 2023, the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office was notified Ghadamidarounkola died at a Washington, D.C. hospital on Saturday, May 13th.

The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner determined the cause of death to be complications due to blunt force trauma to the head and the manner of death to be homicide.

Marquez was previously charged with assault and weapons offenses relating to this matter and his charges were upgraded following the report by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, authorities said.
