Two Union City men have been charged with beating a man to death in November, both of whom are now accused of murder, Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez announced.

Gerson Vasquez, 26, and Antonio Santiago-Jiminez, 34, both of Union City, are each charged with murder and endangering an injured victim, Suarez said in a statement.
Vasquez was arrested by members of the Homicide Unit in Perth Amboy on March 6th.
Santiago-Jiminez was arrested by members of the Union City Police Department on Bergenline Avenue in Union City on March 8th. Both are being detained at the Hudson County Correctional Facility.
At approximately 11 a.m., on November 14th, 2024, the Union City PD was notified of an unresponsive male behind a building on 23rd St.
Responding officers located a lifeless male – later identified as Reynaldo Gonzalez, 56 – and he was pronounced dead at the scene shortly after 11:30 a.m.
On Wednesday, November 26th, 2024, the Regional Medical Examiner’s Office determined the cause of death to be complications of blunt force injuries and the manner to be homicide.
Following the medical examiner’s report, the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Unit formally assumed control of the investigation, authorities said.
