Prosecutor: 16-year-old fatally shot in morning shooting at popular Jersey City restaurant

A 16-year-old was fatally shot yesterday morning at a popular Jersey City restaurant and the killer remains at large, Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez announced.

Yesterday, shortly after 11:45 a.m., the Jersey City Police Department responded to the area of O’LaLa Empanadas, located 600 Communipaw Ave., on a report of shots fired, Suarez said in a statement.

The responding police officers found an unresponsive male victim at that location with an apparent gunshot wound.

The victim, later identified as Pedro Rodriguez, 16, of Jersey City, was pronounced dead at the scene at approximately 12:00 noon. The cause and manner of death are pending the findings of the Regional Medical Examiner’s Office.

The Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Unit is actively investigating this case with assistance from the Jersey City Police Department and no arrests have been made at this time.
