At 8:53 a.m. a pedestrian was stuck at approximately 7600 River Road, at the front entrance of the Palisades Medical Center, North Bergen Deputy Chief Billy Lyons told HCV over the phone this afternoon.

North Bergen police and Emergency Medical Services responded to the scene, where a 65-year-old Union City female pedestrian sustained a life threatening head injury, which was initially treated at the Palisades Medical Center, authorities said.

She was subsequently transported via medevac to the Hackensack University Medical Center, officials said.

Additionally, the driver who struck the pedestrian remained on scene and a preliminary investigation indicated that the accident was caused by glare from the sun, which obstructed the pedestrian from the driver’s line of vision, Lyons said.

Furthermore complicating the matter was when an NJ Transit bus lost power on Bulls Ferry Road during the investigation of the traffic incident, causing a necessary partial road closure, police said.

  1. As a resident across the street this is a dangerous walk, the crosswalk sign hasn’t worked in a year … additionally the speed limit needs to be lowered for safety
