Jose Carreno, 47, of North Bergen, was charged with driving while intoxicated, reckless driving, and using a cell phone in a moving vehicle, according to Police Det. Lt. Danilo Cabrera.

On Tuesday, at about 9:35 p.m., Police Officer Tyrone Huggins responded to a motor vehicle crash in the area of 14th and Garden Streets. Huggins found two vehicles involved and spoke to the drivers.

Huggins suspected that one of the drivers, later identified as Carreno, was under the influence of an intoxicant.

Therefore, a standardized field sobriety test was conducted by Police Officer Anthony Rutkowski and determined Carreno was unable to safely operate a motor vehicle.

Carreno was placed under arrest for DWI and transported to police headquarters. He provided the necessary breath samples and received motor vehicle summonses for the aforementioned charges before being released to a responsible party, authorities said.
