Police: Man busted with crack cocaine in Hoboken after getting caught stealing woman’s purse


A man was busted with crack cocaine in Hoboken after he was caught stealing a woman’s purse after a brief foot pursuit, police said.

Dontae Black, 28, of Jersey City, was charged with robbery, simple assault, resisting arrest, possession of a controlled dangerous substance (crack cocaine), and possession of drug paraphernalia, according to Police Det. Lt. Danilo Cabrera.

Yesterday at approximately 9:45 p.m., Emergency Services Unit Officers William Bullock and James Barbro responded to the area of 2nd and Clinton Street on a report of a robbery.

Upon arrival, Bullock and Barbro were met by two females and immediately pointed to a male walking south on Clinton Street. Bullock then exited his vehicle to approach the alleged actor.

The suspect looked directly at Bullock and began running west on 2nd Street. Bullock chased after the suspect and caught up with him in the area of 2nd and Grand Street.

The man was placed under arrest and later identified as Black. It was alleged that Black approached one of the females and demanded that she turn over her purse.

A struggle ensured, until Black had control of the purse and he ran away. During the struggle, one of the females called for the police.

Black was searched upon being placed under arrest and was found to be in possession of crack cocaine and drug paraphernalia. The victim’s purse was found in the immediate area of where Black was placed under arrest.

Blacks charges were placed on a warrant and he was transported to the Hudson County Correctional Facility, authorities said.
