Police: Man arrested outside Bayonne bar after trying to strike people with his car

A man was arrested outside a Bayonne bar last night after police responded to a call about a street fight and determined that he tried to strike people with his car, authorities said.

Victor Gonzalez, 40, of Newark, was charged with aggravated assault, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and unlawful possession of a weapon, according to Police Capt. Eric Amato.

Gonzalez was taken into custody at 9:49 p.m. from the area of Hobart Avenue. Officers responded to the Vic Tavern, located at 1-7 Hobart Ave., on a report of a fight on the outside.

The on-scene investigation led to the arrest of Gonzalez after it was determined that he utilized his vehicle as a weapon in an attempt to cause bodily harm to other individuals he was involved in the altercation with, officials said.
