A Jersey City man was charged with nine separate car burglaries in Bayonne, dating back to August 25th, yesterday, police said.
Mitch T. West III, 18, of Jersey City, was charged with eight counts of burglary and theft, as well as two counts of fraudulent use of a credit card, according to Police Capt. Eric Amato.
West was taken into custody at around 8:26 a.m. yesterday from the area of West 25th Street. Officers responded to the area of West 25th Street on a report of an individual checking door handles of vehicles.
Upon arrival, they met with the individual in question, later identified as West. During the on-scene investigation, officers were provided information and video footage of the underground parking garage of 22 West 25th Street.
The investigation revealed that West had burglarized a vehicle on September 12th in that underground parking garage and was subsequently placed under arrest for that incident.
A search incident led to the discovery of several credit cards that did not belong to him, leading to charges for three acts of burglary and theft on September 17th.
Upon further investigation, he was charged with stealing a wallet from a car on East 19th Street, as well as taking loose change and credit cards from a vehicle parked near East 19th Street and Broadway on September 12th.
He subsequently attempted to use one of the credit cards at a store in Bayonne, authorities said.
Similar incidents were reported on August 25th, 29th, and 31st, respectively, and he was charged for making a purchase with the stolen credit card on the 29th, officials said.
