A Jersey City man was caught with a hand gun, ammunition, and marijuana after authorities found him “unconscious” inside a parked car in Bayonne, police said.
Davon J. Sanders, 29, of Jersey City, was charged with possession of a firearm for an unlawful purpose, unlawful possession of a firearm, certain persons not to possess a firearm, possession of a large capacity magazine, possession of less than 50 grams of marijuana, and hindering apprehension, according to Police Capt. Eric Amato.
Sanders was taken into custody at 9:14 a.m. yesterday from the area of 22nd Street and Avenue F. An officer patrolling the area discovered a parked vehicle in the rear of the Light Rail parking lot with a piece of clothing draped over the rear driver’s side window.
As the officer investigated, he observed a man, later identified as Sanders, unconscious in the rear passenger compartment. After the officer knocked on the window, Sanders awoke and the officer began to speak with him to ascertain if he was in need of assistance.
As the officer was speaking with him, he observed Sanders attempting to conceal an item from view and also observed marijuana in plain sight while also detecting an odor of marijuana emanating from the vehicle.
The officer ordered Sanders out of the car and a search of the vehicle led to the recovery of marijuana and a fully loaded black Taurus semi-automatic 9 millimeter handgun with a 12 round magazine.
Sanders was placed under arrest and while being processed, provided a false name and
date of birth.
Also during the arrest process, it was learned that Sanders was classified as a certain person to not possess a firearm, authorities said.
