Police: Intoxicated Hoboken man arrested after using umbrella as a weapon

A drunken altercation between two Hoboken men ended with one man getting cut above the eye after being hit with an umbrella, police said. Hoboken police

Luis Rivera, 50 of Hoboken, was charged with aggravated assault, unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of a weapon for unlawful purposes and Bail jumping, according to Police Det. Lt. Edgardo Cruz.

Last night around 9:58 p.m., police were dispatched to the area of 232 Harrison St. on a report of a fight. Officers Fitzgibbons and Houghton arrived and separated two males that were engaged in an altercation, authorities said.

After further investigation, it was determined that Rivera had struck the victim with an umbrella after a brief argument. Rivera apparently would not allow the victim to enter the building, officials said.

The victim suffered a cut over his right eye but is was not a serious injury. Both parties appeared to be intoxicated during the incident, police said.

Rivera was transported to the Hoboken University Medical Center for treatment prior to transportation to the Hudson County Correctional Facility, authorities said.
