Police: Bayonne serial shoplifter arrested for stealing over $1k in toothpaste

A serial shoplifter was arrested on the 4th of July for multiple thefts at the Bayonne Rite Aid, stealing over $1,000 in toothpaste and more than $180 in deodorant, police said.

Marcos Baez, 40, of Bayonne, was charged with four counts of shoplifting and possession of a hypodermic needle, according to Police Lt. Eric Amato.

Baez was taken into custody at at around 7:49 a.m. on Wednesday for shoplifting $179.44
worth of merchandise from the Rite Aid located at 12-16 North Street, authorities said.

While investigating the incident, officers were able to identify Baez as the actor of two
prior shoplifting incidents that occurred on June 28th and July 2nd, where Baez shoplifted a total of $1,017.20 worth of toothpaste, police said.

Additionally, officers were also able to identify Baez as the actor of a prior shoplifting incident at the Quick Chek at 260-280 Broadway, when Baez shoplifted $180.98 worth of deodorant – also on July 2n – officials said.

Furthermore, a search prior to his arrest led to the recovery of a hypodermic syringe, authorities said.
