Terrence Shepard, 43, of Bayonne, was charged with sexual assault, lewdness, and endangering the welfare of a child, according to Police Lt. Eric Amato.

According to authorities, Sheppard was taken into custody around 5:15 p.m. from the area of 23rd Street and Broadway. Officers responded to the area on a report of a man, later identified as Sheppard, exposing himself inside of an area store, officials said.

While the store is not identified in the report, the closest business to that intersection is Rainbow Shops, a clothing store located at 494 Broadway.

According to the several witnesses and victims, including young juveniles, Sheppard entered the store and began looking at items on the shelves.

Sheppard then laid down on the floor in the front of the store and proceeded to place his
hands down the front of his pants and begin masturbating, officials said.

After being confronted by a store employee, Sheppard stood up and continued his lewd act before exiting the store. It is believed that the juveniles were unaware of what had occurred, police said.
