Police: Bayonne man arrested after assaulting man outside of Domino’s Pizza unprovoked


A Bayonne man was arrested yesterday evening after assaulting a man outside of Domino’s Pizza unprovoked, punching him in the head before an off-duty officer intervened, police said.

Robert Mahne, 24, of Bayonne, was charged with simple assault and also arrested on an outstanding warrant, according to Police Capt. Eric Amato.

Mahne was taken into custody at approximately 8:45 p.m. yesterday from the area of 25th Street and Avenue C. Officers responded to the intersection on a report of an assault in progress.

Upon arrival, they met with an off-duty police officer who had witnessed Mahne assaulting the 24-year-old male victim outside of 578 Avenue C.

Based on the victim’s account, he was walking to his car after exiting Domino’s Pizza, Mahne, unprovoked, punched him several times in the head before being stopped by an off-duty officer.

Mahne was placed under arrest for simple assault , as well as for an outstanding warrant issued out of the Hudson County Sheriff’s Office.

The victim refused medical treatment at the scene, authorities said.
