Police: 4 busted in Bayonne for 102.9 grams of weed, $1,600 cash, and a loaded handgun

Four young adults were busted in Bayonne after 102.9 grams of marijuana, over $1,600 in cash, and a loaded handgun were recovered during a traffic stop, police said.

Edwin Clarin, 19, of Guttenberg, Demetrius Higgins, 19, Rashadd Critten, 20, and Latrell, Gonzalez, 20, all of Jersey City, were charged with receiving stolen property, possession of marijuana, possession of marijuana with the intent to distribute (as well as intent to distribute within 1,000 feet of a school), possession of narcotic paraphernalia with intent to distribute, along with three separate weapons charges, according to Police Capt. Eric Amato.

Clarin, Critten, Gonzalez, and Higgins were taken into custody around 10:13 a.m. yesterday from the area of 57th Street and John F. Kennedy Boulevard.

An officer in the area of 57th Street and Kennedy Boulevard observed a white Infiniti traveling at a high rate of speed. The officer conducted a motor vehicle stop of the vehicle, later determined to be occupied by the above listed arrestees with Higgins as the driver.

Immediately after stopping his vehicle, Higgins exited the vehicle and began screaming at the officer. During the investigation, all occupants were ordered out of the vehicle as the officer detected a strong odor of raw marijuana emanating from the interior of the vehicle.

A search of the vehicle led to the recovery of 102.9 grams of marijuana/synthetic marijuana, narcotic paraphernalia, and over $1,600 in suspected narcotic sales proceeds.

As the search continued, a loaded .38 cal handgun was also recovered which was later confirmed to be reported stolen out of Indiana, authorities said.
