Police: 17-year-old Bayonne teen charged with three robberies at gunpoint

A 17-year-old Bayonne teen has been charged with three robberies at gunpoint: two from November and another from last week, police said.

The 17-year-old was charged with robbery, credit card theft, computer theft, possession of a defaced firearm, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, possession of body armor penetrating bullets, possession of CDS with the intent to distribute, possession of CDS with the intent to distribute within 1,000 feet of a school, possession of CDS with the intent to distribute within 500 feet of public housing, according to Police Capt. Eric Amato.

Additionally, he is charged with two counts of robbery, two counts of possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and two counts of unlawful possession of a weapon in connection to two separate incidents on November 11th.

The juvenile was taken into custody at approximately 7 p.m. on Friday from the area of West 29th Street and charged as the actor of numerous previously reported armed robberies involving a handgun.

On March 31st, at about 9:05 p.m., a 30-year-old man reported that he was robbed at gunpoint in the area of 27th Street and Avenue A. According to the victim, while walking on West 27th Street, a male, later identified as the juvenile, called out to him.

As the victim turned around, he was confronted by the juvenile who brandished a handgun and demanded the victim turn over everything in his his pockets.

The teenager then fled with the victim’s cell phone, which also contained numerous credit cards in a card holder attached to the cell phone case.

A short time later, the victim received notification that $965 had been transferred from his bank account to an unfamiliar account via a mobile payment/transfer application.

Furthermore, back on November 12th between about 9 p.m. and 9:30 p.m., a 57-year-old man reported that he was robbed at gunpoint by an unknown man, later identified as the same juvenile.

According to the victim, while in the area of 30th Street and Avenue A, the teen approached him and brandished a handgun, demanding the victim to give him any money he had on his person. The victim complied and the juvenile fled the area.

Also on 11/12/2021 at around 9:30 p.m., officers were approached by a 23-year-old victim outside police headquarters. The victim reported that he had just been robbed at gunpoint in the area of West 31st Street by an unknown man, later identified as the juvenile.

According to the victim, while in the area of West 30th Street, he was approached by the teenager, who brandished a handgun, pointed it at the victim’s head, and demanded the victim to turn over his possessions on his person.

The victim complied and the aggressor fled the scene with the victim’s cell phone, shoulder bag, and wallet that contained cash, bank cards, and identification.

The Bayonne Police Department Detective Bureau immediately initiated an investigation into the reported robberies and were able to identify the minor as the actor.

Once he was taken into custody, detectives were able to recover a defaced semi-automatic handgun loaded with a single 9mm body armor-penetrating round, additional 9mm body armor-penetrating rounds loosely stored, a quantity of cocaine suitable for distribution, various other item of evidence linking him to the robberies, and numerous bank cards belonging to various people, authorities said.
