UPDATED: Officials: Pedestrian in critical condition after being hit by bus in North Bergen

This story has been updated with more information regarding the NJ Transit bus that struck a pedestrian in North Bergen this morning, where a 27-year-old male pedestrian was pinned under the vehicle and is suffering from bleeding from the brain as a result.

A pedestrian is in critical condition in the Hackensack University Medical Center after being struck by an NJ Transit bus early this morning, according to Hudson County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Mike Makarski.

Makarski said the accident occurred at the intersection of 90th Street and Bergenline Avenue at 5:50 a.m., where the 27-year-old male pedestrian was struck by an NJ Transit bus, leased to the Academy Bus company, while crossing the street.

The bus was staging in James J. Braddock Park was heading south and struck a pedestrian in the crosswalk while making a left turn, Makarski said.

The driver stopped the vehicle which had pinned the pedestrian underneath it. The 27-year-old male, from Flushing, New York, remains in critical condition at Hackensack University Medical Center and is suffering from bleeding from the brain.

The investigation is ongoing by the Hudson County Sheriff’s Office, who will determine whether or not criminal charges will be issued in this accident.
