A Jersey City murder suspect shot himself in the head in Mercer Park late this morning as local authorities pursued him for an early morning shooting death of a woman on Monitor Street, a city spokeswoman said.
According to City spokeswoman Jennifer Morrill, the victim was in a car with the actor around 7:30 a.m., when she exited the vehicle and he chased her down the street and began shooting at her.
She entered another vehicle, where the actor shot her and a second woman was cut by shattered glass, Morrill said.
Referring to the incident as “a tragic domestic issue,” based on eyewitnesses and the suspect having previous domestic charges on his record, he was found by police in Mercer Park with a self-inflicted gun shot wound to the head around 11:30 a.m., Morrill explained.
Mercer Park is a county park located in Bayonne, but a portion of the park sits on the border of Bayonne and Jersey City.
Hudson County View’s Jeannette Josue was briefly on the scene this morning, where the Jersey City Police Department and Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office were investigating the incident.
The Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office was not immediately able to provide any additional information on the situation.
