North Hudson officials deem West New York’s 64th and Polk Streets ‘Sacco Way’

West New York and North Bergen officials gathered at 64th and Polk Streets this evening to deem the intersection “Sacco Way” to honor Pasquale “Pat” Sacco – the father of North Bergen Mayor/state Senator (D-32) Nick Sacco.

West New York Mayor Felix Roque kicked off the program by explaining why Pat Sacco deserved to be recognized in this community.

Roque also explained that the elder Sacco, a lifelong West New York resident who passed away on December 12 at age 95, served in World War II as a member of U.S. Army.

U.S. Rep. Albio Sires (D-8), a former West New York mayor, commended Roque on the street naming.

Joe Sacco, one of Pat Sacco’s sons, said his dad wouldn’t have wanted a street named after him, but that doesn’t mean he didn’t earn it.

North Bergen Mayor and state Senator (D-32) Nick Sacco, Pat Sacco’s other son, provided some family history about their time in West New York.

After the ceremony, Nick Sacco told Hudson County View that he knows his father must feel proud.

The West New York Board of Commissioners unanimously approved the street naming at last month’s meeting.

Political operative Joey Muniz served as the emcee for the event.

Others in attendance included Assemblywoman Angelica Jimenez (D-32), Hudson County Sheriff Frank Schillari, North Bergen Commissioners Hugo Cabrera, Allen Pascual and Julio Marenco, West New York Freeholder Caridad Rodriguez (D-7), North Bergen Freeholder Anthony Vainieri (D-8), West New York Commissioners Cosmo Cirillo, Sue Colacurcio and Gabriel Rodriguez, Weehawken Mayor Richard Turner, Guttenberg Mayor Gerald Drasheff, Guttenberg Council members Wayne Zitt, John Habermann and Monica Fundora, West New York Superintendent of Schools Clara Brito Herrera, West New York BOE Trustees Adam Parkinson and Jonathan Castaneda, former West New York Mayor Sal Vega and ex- West New York Freeholder Jose Munoz.
