The North Bergen Police Department, the New Jersey Humane Society and volunteers from North Bergen High School rescued three dogs from frigid outdoors temperatures on New Year’s Eve.Â

“On December 31st, we received a call about three unattended dogs, a mother and two puppies, in an industrial part of town. NBPD, New Jersey Humane Society, and volunteers from the NB High School Football Team responded to help capture the dogs,” the NBPD wrote on their Facebook page.
“It took approximately twelve hours to capture all three dogs in the frigid temperature. The NJ Humane Society temporarily housed the three dogs. Today [yesterday], they were transported to the St. Hubert’s Animal Welfare Center where they will help in finding a forever home for this amazing family.”
Geoff Santini, North Bergen’s animal cruelty investigator who also runs the NJ Humane Society, told Hudson County View the wild dogs were roaming loose near the railroad tracks on 74th Street after escaping through a gate that leads to a street between Home Depot and Target – which is located at 7101 Tonnelle Ave.
“The greatness of a nation and it’s moral progress can be judged by the way it’s animals are treated,” added Santini, who also commended the efforts of the NBPD in the single-digit temperatures.
