“I am honored to step into this important role leading the award-winning North Bergen Housing Authority, and I thank the NBHA Board of Comnmissioners for their trust and confidence in me,” Marenco said in a statement.
“I look forward to working closely with the dedicated staff at the NBHA and our community partners to ensure we continue to meet the needs of the residents we serve and to build on the successes that have been achieved over the last several years in providing safe, clean and affordable housing for our community.”
Elected to the state Assembly in 2023 after serving on the North Bergen Board of Commissioners for eight years, Marenco is a bilingual, a lifelong North Hudson resident, a U.S. Navy veteran, and also a former board of education trustee.
“We are thrilled to have Julio Marenco lead our organization during this interim period,” added NBHA Board of Commissioners Chair Andrew Becker.
“With his extensive experience and deep understanding of North Bergen and the needs of its community, we are confident in his ability to provide the leadership we need.”
The NBHA board appointed Marenco by a unanimous vote on Thursday.
Former NBHA Executive Director Gerald Sanzari resigned “due to personal health reasons” earlier this month, three days after a former employee filed a lawsuit alleging he has misappropriated agency funds, both of which HCV first reported.
What is that, four public jobs for Marenco now? Padding the pension, huh. Does Marenco run for reelection or does stack name a replacement?
