At about 6:45 p.m. last night in a parking lot used for Sonic restaurant, a truck engine had caught on fire. The driver, a Metuchen resident, told Hudson County View he pulled into the lot after he heard the engine make a “pop” sound.

Shortly after he pulled over, flames began shooting out of the dashboard, prompting him to immediately exit the vehicle and call for help.

Firefighters quickly put the fire out with one hose before opening the hood of the car with a buzzsaw type of device to check on the engine.

After the fact, the two two front tires of the vehicle were completely torched, with about half of the exterior and all of the interior also totally destroyed.

No one was injured as a result of the blaze.
