In the midst of a split between the Hudson County Democratic Organization, U.S. Senator Bob Menendez (D-NJ) is set to help fundraise for Hudson County Executive Tom DeGise’s 2019 re-election campaign next month.

Menendez is will be a “featured speaker/special guest” at a May 3rd event at the Liberty House Restaurant for DeGise, according to a copy of the invitation.

While the event is being labeled as a campaign kickoff, DeGise announced his intentions to seek re-election back in June with Menendez, U.S. Senator Cory Booker (D-NJ) and then-Democratic gubernatorial candidate Phil Murphy in attendance.

HCDO sources told Hudson County View that they expect Menendez to endorse DeGise at the Jersey City venue next month.

During an appearance on Hudson County Review Live last month, DeGise said he had no doubts that the senior Senator would throw his support behind him for another four-year term.

While such an endorsement would certainly be a big plus for DeGise, it’s also possible Menendez is repaying a favor: the county exec hosted a fundraiser for the Senator at Edward’s Steakhouse in Jersey City last week.

DeGise can use all the help he can get as Jersey City Mayor Steven Fulop and state Senator (D-33)/Union City Mayor Brian Stack are leading the charge to oust him in June 2019.
