McKnight answers rumors of a Senate run, talks future plans at fundraiser

Over a hundred guests attended Assemblywoman Angela McKnight’s (D-31) first fundraiser of the year at Liberty Prime, where she answered rumors of a possible run for state Senate and other future plans.

“As of right now, I am the assemblywomen and I have to concentrate on being an assemblywomen,” McKnight told Hudson County View after laughing off a question about a possible Senate run in June.

As we first reported last month, an anonymous poll pitted veteran state Senator Sandra Cunningham (D-31) against five possible opponents, including McKnight.

At the time, McKnight reacted to the poll by stating “nothing is off the table, but I haven’t made a decision just yet.”

While addressing the crowd, McKnight explained that “each and every day when I am in Trenton, or in the District Office, or in the streets, I am thinking about all of you. What can I do to help make Jersey City, Bayonne, the 31st District, better.”

McKnight’s fundraiser also had a long line of speakers, starting with Assembly Speaker (D-32) Vincent Prieto, also the chairman of the Hudson County Democratic Association (HCDO).

“She wants to get into the weeds, she wants to know the subject matter, she wants to know what it all about and that’s what makes great legislators,” shared Prieto.

Additionally, Bayonne Mayor Jimmy Davis talked about McKnight’s work with seniors and how “their faces light up” because of her. McKnight runs the Jersey City-based 501(c)3 AngelaCARES Inc.

Her legislative partner, Assemblyman Nicholas Chiaravalloti (D-31) referred to her “a fierce advocate to all issues in Hudson County.”

Hudson County Register Diane Coleman also commented on how McKnight and Chiaravalloti are an ideal team for Hudson County.

McKnight also concluded her speech by telling her supporters “the money will come in, but I like to see bodies. And the bodies are here tonight. That means that you support me as well as I support you. So whatever you had to do to get here, I appreciate all of you from the bottom of my heart.”

Other officials in attendance included Assemblyman Raj Mukherji (D-33), Jersey City Council President Rolando Lavarro, Bayonne 2nd Ward Councilman Sal Gullace and Bayonne Councilman-at-Large Juan Perez.
