A man was fatally shot outside of a Jersey City firefighter station at 2 Bergen Ave. late Saturday evening, according to police radio transmissions.

“The Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Unit and the Jersey City Police Department are investigating the fatal shooting of a male in the area of Bergen Avenue and Van Nostrand Avenue. More to follow,” the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office tweeted just before 11 p.m. last night.

A man was shot in the head outside of the Engine 19 Ladder 8 firehouse around about 10:20 p.m., police radio transmissions said. The incident was ruled a homicide at approximately 10:30 p.m.

At approximately 10:16 p.m., the Jersey City Police Department was notified of a shooting in the area of 2 Bergen Ave. Responding officers located a man, later identified as Tyreef Robinson, 34, of Jersey City, with an apparent gunshot wound to the upper body.

He was pronounced dead at the scene at 10:27 p.m. The cause and manner of death are pending the findings of the Regional Medical Examiner’s Office.

The Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Unit and the Jersey City Police Department are actively investigating this case and no arrests have been made at this time.
