Man busted with 2 kilos of heroin, fentanyl by HCPO Narcotics Task Force in Jersey City

A man was busted with two kilograms of heroin and fentanyl following a Jersey City traffic stop by the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Narcotics Task Force, which came after a six-week investigation, authorities said.

At approximately 10 p.m. on July 13th, HCPO NTF detectives conducted a motor vehicle stop in Jersey City and later conducted a search warrant of a backpack belonging to an occupant of the vehicle, Juan Gomez, 37, of Elizabeth, Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez said in a statement.

The search of the backpack resulted in approximately one kilogram of heroin/fentanyl. A subsequent search of Gomez’s apartment on Fairmount Avenue in Elizabeth
on July 13th resulted in the seizure of an additional 1,200 grams of heroin/fentanyl.

As a result, Gomez has been charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance with intent to distribute (fentanyl) and possession of CDS (fentanyl) with intent to distribute within 500 feet of a public park, while additional and upgraded charges are pending.

Suarez credited the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Narcotics Task Force, the Drug
Enforcement Administration – Newark, the Union County Prosecutor’s Office and the Hudson County Sheriff’s Department K-9 Unit, with the investigation and arrests.
