“This recognition affirms the commitment of our teachers, staff, and families to creating a learning environment where every young adolescent feels seen, supported, and challenged,” LCCS Head of School Colin Hogan said in a statement.
“We are proud to represent New Jersey and the charter school community as a model for what middle level education can and should be.”
LCCS is the only school in New Jersey and also the only charter school in the country to receive this honor.
The AMLE Schools of Distinction program honors schools that exemplify best practices in middle level education while guiding them through a strategic vision-setting process to drive continuous improvement.
The school was selected following a rigorous review process, including a comprehensive school-wide assessment, continuous improvement planning, and stakeholder interviews with staff, students, and families.
Academically, LCCS combines rigor with choice through accelerated math, high school-level texts, and project-based learning that connects to real-world issues.
For example, every eighth grader takes Algebra 1, while signature programs like National History Day encourage critical thinking and confidence.
Teachers use varied strategies to support all learners, including neurodivergent students, ensuring equity and excellence in every classroom.
The school will present its achievements live at AMLE25 in Indianapolis, Indiana.
