Jersey City Ward F Councilman Jermaine Robinson had a warrant issued for his arrest after a police report alleging domestic assault was filed at the West District Police Station this weekend.

Robinson allegedly assaulted a woman on Friday evening and the alleged victim filed a police report and received treatment at the Jersey City Medical Center, several sources familiar with the investigation told HCV.

City spokeswoman Kimberly Wallace-Scalcione said that a woman filed an assault claim at the West District Police Precinct on Sunday at midnight, though declined to mention who was involved since the investigation is ongoing.

However, the address she provided of the alleged incident, 237 Randolph Ave., is the location of the Light Rail Cafe – an establishment owned by Robinson – and is also listed as his home address, according to public records.

After this story was initially published, a copy of the complaint warrant was obtained by HCV, where the alleged victim claims that Robinson threw her down a flight of stairs.

As a result, she says she sustained bruises on her legs, right arm, and her back, as well as a “minor cut” on her forehead. She also alleges that Robinson had been drinking all day.

Robinson and the Jersey City Police Department did not return calls seeking comment so it was unclear if he had turned himself into authorities yet as of this writing.

The elected municipal representative for Ward F has recently faced criticism for being open to the possibility of allowing privatization at Liberty State Park.

To that end, he was the only council member to vote against a resolution urging the state legislature to pass the Liberty State Park Protection Act after previously urging his colleagues to delay the vote twice.

Additionally, Robinson faced scrutiny in January after at marathon city council meeting where they approved a school board referendum – which has since been rescinded due to the coronavirus pandemic.

At that meeting, he told a public speaker that was critical of the council that “you can see me outside,” though he later apologized for losing his cool in an interview with Pix 11.

In February, Mayor Steven Fulop announced Robinson as one of his five runnings mates at his re-election kickoff event, though that could now be in jeopardy pending the outcome of this case.

Robinson, who was first appointed to the seat in January 2017, unsuccessfully ran with then-Mayor Jerramiah Healy in 2013 before ultimately ending up on Team Fulop in 2017.
