Jersey City NAACP Pres.: Prosecutor’s office could release Lavon King report in October

Jersey City NAACP President William Braker says he was told in a meeting with law enforcement officials that the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office is hoping to release their report on the shooting death of Lavon King in October at last night’s meeting at the Mary McLeod Bethune Life Center.

Braker said at the meeting that he recently met with Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez and Assistant Prosecutor Gene Rubino to discuss the shooting death of King – a 20-year-old Jersey City resident with multiple prior arrests, who was fatally shot by Jersey City Police Officer Kenneth Bowes during a struggle in June 2014.

Braker, a former deputy director of the Jersey City Police Department, said that Rubino told him the prosecutor’s office hopes to release their findings in the case by October.

The incident has been largely overlooked in recent memory, though Lydel King, Lavon King’s brother, told Hudson County View in January “I just want to see the truth.”

Braker’s tone on the matter was the same calm and composed one he had when speaking with us in November after being re-elected Jersey City NAACP president, stating at the time:

“We’re going to wait patiently, but diligently, for the results of that investigation.”

Rubino did not return a message left with his office this morning.

  1. Results? I have the results. I been had it. It will show the cop was 150% justified and King deserved it. What, you are expected to see the cop was at fault and lose his job pension and face criminal charges? It will never ever happen. You won’t get justice unless there are body cameras and there not abused. And even if there are look at Rodney King. The whole ***damn beat down was recorded yet NOT GUILTY!!
With that said I like Mr Braker.
