“We are saddened with the passing of a middle schooler attending MS#4. The child passed away yesterday morning at the hospital of medical complications,” Board President Sudhan Thomas said in a statement.

“On behalf of the Board, staff and students of the Jersey City Public Schools, we extend our deepest sympathy to his family and friends during this difficult time.”

District officials also revealed that the child was a 6th grader at the Frank R. Conwell Middle School and previously attended the Reverend Dr. Ercel Webb (School No. 22).

Thomas also noted that Acting Superintendent of Schools Franklin Walker is coordinating grief counseling for the friends, peers, and classmates.

A source from the school district said the child was chronically ill and was considered “medically fragile.”
