“It is recommended that women begin an annual mammogram at age 40. Patients who have been diagnosed with breast cancer have a higher percentage of survival if the cancer is detected early,” Dr. Chris M. McGreevy, a breast surgical oncologist at JCMC, said in a statement.
“It is important for women to ask questions, perform self-breast exams, and keep a healthy lifestyle.”
The event will be held at the women’s health center, which is located on the third floor, between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. The JCMC requires those interested to call 201-915-2145 and register for their free breast mammograms.
Those who participate in the hospital’s screening will be eligible for a free prize giveaway. In partnership with JCMC, New Jersey Cancer Education & Early Detection Screening Program (NJCEED), a subsect of New Jersey Department of Health, and the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority’s Rho Kappa Omega Chapter are sponsoring the event, making free screenings possible for people without insurance.
