“This recognition reflects the deep commitment our team has to the people of Jersey City and the surrounding communities we are privileged to serve,” Jersey City Medical Center President and CEO Jonathan P. Kyriacou said in a statement.

“At Jersey City Medical Center, patient safety isn’t just a priority, it’s a promise to our neighbors, families and friends. Earning an ‘A’ grade from The Leapfrog Group affirms the trust our community places in us every day and our ongoing dedication to providing safe, compassionate, high-quality care close to home.”

The recognition comes after Leapfrog had assigned the JCMC a “B” rating for the past three years: 2023, 2024, and 2025.

“An ‘A’ Grade is a strong sign that RWJBarnabas Health is deeply committed to protecting patients from harm,” The Leapfrog Group President and CEO Leah Binder added.

“We commend the leadership, Board, clinicians, staff and volunteers for the role each played in earning this distinction.”

RWJBarnabas Health, who owns the JCMC, also received “A” ratings for their Community Medical Center in Toms River and the Monmouth Medical Center Southern Campus in Lakewood.

“The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade provides data and research to help you make informed decisions about a critical aspect of your hospital stay – safety. A hospital may have the best surgeons and greatest technology in the world, but unless it is preventing infections and eliminating errors, it is not delivering on a very basic premise: ensuring the safety of you and your loved ones,” their website explains.

“The goal of the Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade is to reduce preventable deaths from hospital errors and injuries by publicly recognizing safety and exposing harm.”
