Jersey City man arrested for pair of sexual assaults reported on Monday, authorities say

A Jersey City man has been arrested for a pair of early morning sexual assaults that took place within a two-hour window on Monday, Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez announced.

Earlier today, members of the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims
Unit charged Darell McRae, 30, of Jersey City, in connection with two separate Jersey City
incidents involving sexual assault that occurred on Monday, Suarez said in a statement.

In the first incident that occurred shortly after 1:00 a.m., McRae has been charged with
attempted murder, aggravated sexual assault, aggravated assault, terroristic threats, possession of a weapon (knife) for an unlawful purpose and unlawful possession of a weapon, authorities said.

Then for the incident that occurred shortly after 2:40 a.m., McRae has been charged with aggravated sexual assault, aggravated assault, terroristic threats, possession of a weapon (knife) for an unlawful purpose and unlawful possession of a weapon, officials said.

Detectives arrested McRae on these charges at the Hudson County Correctional Facility where he was being held on separate criminal charges from the Jersey City Police Department.

He will be held at the Hudson County Correctional Facility pending his first appearance.

Suarez credited the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit and the
Jersey City Police Department for the investigation and arrest.

On Monday, shortly after 1:00 a.m., a Jersey City Police Department patrol unit was alerted to an injured female in the area of Martin Luther King Boulevard and Stevens Avenue in Jersey City.

The victim, a 25-year-old woman from Bayonne, sustained a laceration on her neck and hand. She was treated at the scene by the responding officers and Emergency Medical
Services before being transported to Jersey City Medical Center, police said.

In a second incident that occurred shortly after 2:40 a.m., Jersey City police responded
to a report of sexual assault in the area of West Side Avenue and Union Street in Jersey City.

Responding police officers found a woman in that area who alleged that she was a victim of a sexual assault. The victim, a 28-year-old woman from Jersey City, was transported by Emergency Medical Services to Jersey City Medical Center for medical attention, authorities said.
